Adult ADHD Evaluation in St. Charles, IL
Maybe you've always felt scattered, or you lose track of deadlines no matter how hard you try. Maybe work, school or parenting now asks more of you than your old coping strategies can handle. Many adults first wonder about ADHD later in life. A careful evaluation can show whether attention difficulties come from ADHD or from something else, like anxiety, depression, sleep problems or stress. At Hesed Psychological Services we evaluate adults from our St. Charles office and serve clients from Wheaton, West Chicago, Naperville and across Kane and DuPage Counties.
What an adult ADHD evaluation looks at
A quick checklist can't diagnose ADHD. Our evaluation looks at the whole picture, using standardized tests of attention, working memory, processing speed, executive functioning (planning, organizing, starting and finishing tasks) and mood, along with your history since childhood. The goal is an accurate answer, whatever it turns out to be, and a clear plan that makes use of your strengths.
The results can help you:
Learn whether ADHD explains your difficulties, and whether anxiety, depression or a learning issue is also involved
Get specific recommendations for work, college or graduate school, including documentation that can support requests for accommodations
Take clear results to your physician or psychiatrist when you're deciding about treatment
Please note: Hesed provides evaluation and therapy. We don't prescribe medication. If medication might help, we'll recommend that you talk with your physician or psychiatrist, and with your permission we can share your report with them.
What to expect: three meetings, finished within 6–8 weeks
Intake (about 1 hour, in person or by video). We go over your concerns, your history from childhood on and any past records, like report cards or earlier testing.
Testing (3–8 hours, in person at our St. Charles office). You'll complete tasks that measure attention, memory, reasoning and executive functioning, and answer questionnaires about mood and daily life. Breaks are built in.
Feedback (about 1 hour, in person or by video). We walk through what we found, answer your questions and talk about practical next steps.
The whole process is finished within 6–8 weeks of your first contact. Because Hesed also offers counseling, you can continue with a therapist here to work on executive-functioning skills if that would help.
