Individual Counseling and Therapy in St. Charles, IL

Every person faces seasons that are hard to carry alone. At Hesed Psychological Services, our psychologists and counselors offer individual therapy for children (from age 6), teens, adults and older adults from our office in St. Charles. We serve neighbors across Kane County and DuPage County. Many clients come from St. Charles, Geneva, Batavia, South Elgin and Elgin. Others drive in from Wayne, West Chicago, Wheaton, Warrenville, Carol Stream, Glen Ellyn, Naperville, Lombard and Downers Grove.

"Hesed" is an ancient word for steadfast love: kindness that keeps showing up. That's the spirit we bring to counseling. We look at the whole person, including the biological, psychological, social and spiritual parts of your life, and we build a plan around your goals.

What we help with

Our therapists work with a wide range of concerns, including:

  • Anxiety, stress and worry
  • Depression and low mood
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), including religious scrupulosity (religious OCD)
  • Trauma and traumatic stress
  • Grief, loss and bereavement
  • Relationship and communication problems
  • Anger, self-esteem, guilt and shame
  • Life transitions, chronic illness and the challenges of aging
  • ADHD and executive-functioning struggles in daily life
  • Spiritual and faith concerns

We also offer couples and family therapy.

Christian counseling is available from every Hesed clinician. If you'd like, your therapy can be informed by the tenets of Christian faith and practice and by Scripture. We welcome clients of any faith or none, and faith is included only at your request. See our Christian Counseling page.

How we work

Therapy works best as a partnership. Our clinicians use evidence-based approaches such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills, psychodynamic therapy and solution-focused therapy. For OCD and anxiety, they also use exposure-based treatment. Your therapist chooses the approach based on what you're facing and what fits you. Research consistently shows that the relationship between client and therapist is one of the most important factors in getting better, so we take time to make a good match.

Because our team includes neuropsychologists, we can also recommend testing when it would help. That might be when attention, memory or learning problems may be part of the picture. Testing and therapy happen under one roof, so your care stays coordinated. Learn more on our Neuropsychological Testing page.
